The Governor's new appointment.
Registrar of Motor Vehicles Anne L. Collins is leaving the agency’s top job in a leadership shakeup that will elevate her to a top transportation post while Gov. Deval Patrick searches for her successor, officials said.Collins, appointed registrar by former Gov. Mitt Romney in 2005, has accepted a senior policy position in Patrick’s Executive Office of Transportation. Sources characterized the move as a promotion.
Patrick administration officials declined to comment on Collins’ new role or discuss the status of the search for her replacement. Sources familiar with the management changes said the appointment of a new RMV chief is expected within a few weeks.
Collins, who previously helmed the state Division of Professional Licensure, was appointed Registrar of Motor Vehicles by Romney to institute security upgrades and stabilize the agency following a period of political upheaval.
During the past two years, Collins has implemented sweeping regulatory changes to stiffen penalties against drunken drivers and increase education and training requirements for teen motorists.
