You Go, Girl!

Holly Robichaud speaks truth to Gov. Patrick's power.

Governor Patrick is once again trying to turn back our criminal justice system to the days of Mike Dukakis. He is attempting to weaken CORI.

Governor Patrick wants convicted felons to be able to seal their records after 10 years instead of 15 years. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want a convicted rapists sitting next to me at work. And what if that so-called former rapists attacks while on the job. Wouldn’t there be some liability issues for the employer for failing to protect their employees?

Governor Patrick stated that he wants to give these convicted felons a second chance. What about the victims? How do they get a second chance? Does the Governor think the nightmare of being raped ever truly goes away? Doesn’t the Governor understand that victims live with these nightmares for the rest of their lives?

Tell it, sister!

UPDATE: More from the Globe and Herald.

King Deval has been studying ways to make life easier for cons for a year now. Priorities people, priorities. This is at the top of Deval's list of priorities, just below resort casinos. We peasants aren't even in the first volume of his priority list.

Casino Deval, governing via fiat. Together We Can (not)

The Governor's proposal does not help sex-offenders in anyway. If you read it, you would see that it supports law enforcement and victims rights to information, in addition to helping ex-offenders have a chance at getting a job.

"in addition to helping ex-offenders have a chance at getting a job."

By handcuffing employers and limiting what they are eligible to see. This is just a rape case away from a massive lawsuit. I don't know mant employers who will go to the cops to follow up on thier CORI's. And how about youth organizations? My town CORI's all the scout volunteers, soccer coaches, baseball coaches etc. I'm all set with some pedo who can have his record hidden taking baseball practice with kids. No thanks. Patrcik will be singularly responsible when this goes bad, and it will.

Sealing one's CORI...is an earned reward for ALL people whom have made an error in judgement in their past, have paid their debt to society, learned from their mistake and have since kept out of trouble. That is,EVERYONE accept people (it appears without a sex-related conviction). This is just wrong!!! So...based on this criteria, all convicts: Murderers, spouse and child batterers, kidnappers, drug dealers, robbers, dui offenses that have killed people, all other gang thugs and the like ar eligible for forgiveness except a person with a sex offense. Any sex offense....does not matter how minor or trivial...you are deemed unforgivable and banished from society for life. This is discrimination in its purest form. What if people said that jews or blacks were not eligible for parole or pardons...only whites and catholics. Its the same thing and it is morally wrong! I agree that a serial rapist or a child predator should be viewed in a different light..but to group all people that have a sex-related offense into this same category is just not right. People convicted of taking human life as well as others involved in killing (the body or spirit (habitual domestic and child violent abusers)are certainly no better than a person who may have grabbed somone's buttocks or breast at a fraternity party when he/she was 20 yrs old. All convicted people deserve a second chance...not just the murderer's!

Deval Patrick is a Moron...plain and simple.

He wants to provide CORI relief for all convicts except for those with any type of sex offense....great idea!

So, instead of having some sex offender sitting next to me at work (who might be okay) I can now have a 1st-3rd Degree Murderer or better yet, a person who goes home and beats his wife and children. Or, maybe he goes out after work drinks it up and decides to drive..endangering whole families! He may just be the occasional drug user or the one that pushes the posion to our children in our school system....or the violent robber who breaks into your house to support his/her habit.
Keep CORI the way it is and let people who have proven to have earned a second chance...have the ability to have it erased/expunged.
