The "deeply private person" that is Diane Patrick, the wife of Governor Deval Patrick, released her first statement since being treated for exhaustion and depression...and she did it online.
“Your many personal accounts reminded me that depression is a fairly common illness, that, when confronted honestly, can be treated successfully,” writes Diane Patrick in a letter posted on DevalPatrick.com.Patrick, 55, of Milton, a partner at the Boston law firm Ropes and Gray, withdrew from the public eye last month and the governor announced she was being treated for depression.
In her letter, the first lady describes struggling as a “deeply private person” thrust into the spotlight during her husband’s campaign, with “exhilarating highs and stomach-churning lows” that were akin to a roller coaster.
“When the campaign was over, I expected life to settle down, at least a bit, and to regain some sense of normalcy. To my surprise, however, soon after the inauguration, I found myself aboard a new and different roller coaster,” she writes.
I know that the internet is great media tool, and yes, she is a "deeply private person," but I don't particularly care for making rather personal and public statements on such an impersonal, anonymous medium like the internet. To me, that's an easy way out.
You know what they say about the internet; on the internet, you can be whoever you want to be. How long will it be before she starts sending 'thanks yous' by SMS text message?
