The Silent Treatment

Former Governor Michael Dukakis urges the press not to cover the Diane Patrick matter.

“Just the fact that you guys are all over this story will make her recovery even more difficult. Get off it, and stay off it,” Dukakis wrote in an e-mail yesterday...

Dukakis, now 73, declined comment when asked if he or his wife, Kitty, could shed light on their own experiences of dealing with mental health woes while in the political spotlight.

In an earlier e-mail, Dukakis wrote, “The Patrick family has asked for privacy. That’s what Diane needs, and that is what we - and you - should give her.”

UPDATE: More from Howie Carr, Jessica Fargen and the Globe.

SECOND UPDATE: More from Sudden Stop, Steve LeBlanc, Dan Kennedy, Casey Ross, Mass. Backwards, Yvonne Abraham, Big Bish and Scott Allen Miller.

Hold the phone ...

"Former Gov. Michael S. Dukakis, whose wife waged a public battle with booze, pills and depression and wrote two books about it, said the media should just leave Gov. Deval Patrick and his wife alone as she battles her own illness."

Is Dookie saying the media should give Diane AND Deval Patrick privacy? Deval is the Governor, for Christ's sake! If he wanted privacy for his wife and for himself, maybe he shouldn't have entered public service.

This is ridiculous. He comes into office, makes mistake after mistake (Caddie, drapes, Citigroup phone call, $72K asst for his wife) and the press should leave him alone? If he wants to be left alone he should leave office.

sorry, Dukakoid----but you are in the public life, and you have no private life! If he wanted it kept private, he wouldn't have paraded it out.
I feel some sympathy for Mrs Patrick, but I am damned tired of every moonbat and "BP" (wait, they are one in the same, no?) going on and on about how bad it is that people don't cut them some slack.
Sorry, but in the REAL world, you deal with it, as best you can, and move on. The REAL people don't have the luxury afforded the Patricks. And I agree with Big Bish--give me a break....Deville, get back to work and do the things you said you were going to do--period. Her problem is her problem, and you need to deal with it, but you work for us, period. I didn't vote for you, but am willing to give you another shot after the 3 months of screwups you've already done. if you can't then step aside-----put up or shut up!
(the history books are not going to be too kind to you)
As far as Dukaka goes, we are still cleaning up the hacks still left from his "good jobs at good wages days"---only in Mass could this happen!

Obviously, he's worried about her health, his emergency bond that was just submitted will address her safe passage in the Cadillac on our roads, and get her name on a plaque in a new psychiatric hospital.

Clearly, he's doing this with his families interests in mind.

Hey, The First Lady had a cancerous skin tumor removed. The President didn't fold up the tents and alter his work schedule/hours, and the MSM DEMANDED answers and accused the President of "hiding" his wife's condition.

How does Coupe Deval get off the hook? Think, in the Main Stream Media's rant, "She could do so much to draw attention to the serious threat of depression". But Patrick remains silent on this serious issue...
