Convicted rapist Benjamin LaGuer, who became a central figure in last year's gubernatorial campaign, has lost another bid for a new trial.
The state Supreme Judicial Court on Friday shot down LaGuer's eighth motion for a new trial, rejecting an appeal based on his claim that a state police fingerprint report that was not turned over to the defense during his trial could have persuaded the jury to acquit him.
LaGuer was sentenced to life in prison in 1984 after being convicted in the aggravated rape of a 59-year-old Leominster woman.
