Gov. Patrick's budget: a disaster in the making.

Despite the bold promises of his campaign, Gov. Deval Patrick’s budget will not deliver significant financial relief to cash-strapped cities and towns or reduce property taxes for most Bay State residents, budget watchdogs say...

Aside from education aid, Patrick’s plan provides only modest increases or flat funding in local assistance, meaning communities may still feel pressure to override property tax limits.

UPDATE: Hell hath no fury like Margery Eagan scorned. Plus, more from Red Mass. Group.

SECOND UPDATE: More from the Globe and Herald. Also, Jon Keller weighs in.

"Patrick has been limited by a $1.3 billion deficit, a problem officials say was hidden from him during the campaign."

Is there anyone besides me who finds this claim - the so-called "hidden" budget defict - to be, in a word, unbelievable? I mean, didn't the Democrats - Deval's Party of choice - control the legislature with double veto-proof majorities last year? And if so, wouldn't they have known about said "deficit"? And if they knew about it, don't you think someone might have clued-in their party's standard-bearer to this little problem?

And if my supposition is correct, when is someone - anyone - in the MSM going to call Total BS on this Talking Point?

Also, didn't his first mention of the budget deficit come at the same time that he repealed hundreds of millions of dollars in budget cuts from Romney/Healey?

Basically this guy's been spending like a drunken sailor since he won the election and has passed it off with a "don't question me, just buy into the plan attitude."
