Unfit To Take The Oath

The oath taken by Deval Patrick:

"I do solemnly swear and affirm, that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent on me as : according to the best of my abilities and understanding, agreeably, to the rules and regulations of the constitution, and the laws of this commonwealth -- So help me, God."

-- Chapter VI, Article 1, Massachusetts Constitution

Today, Deval Patrick will take the oath of office and become governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It was just two days ago when he has declared himself unfit to take that oath.

“I favor ending this petition initiative promptly. If adjournment can accomplish that, so be it.”

-- Governor-elect Deval Patrick -- Statement, January 2, 2007

Mr. Patrick, a steward of the law, has defiled the sanctity of our laws and constitution by lobbying legislators to also violate the constitution. This comes as no surprise, as he is on the record as suggesting that laws may be selectively enforced.

He demonstrated his unfitness for office twice. First, in the wake of the Supreme Judicial Court's ruling that the legislature had a duty to vote on the constitutional amendment, he made the rounds of the legislature urging them to ignore their constitutional responsibilities. Second, he wants to end petition initiatives. There is nothing more fundamental to democracy than the right of the people to petition their government. Now he wants to selectively enforce the laws of the Commonwealth. I thought he took and oath of office to uphold all the laws and the constitution of the Commonwealth.

There is nothing more fundamental to democracy than the right of the people to petition their government? Well, perhaps, but certainly petition initiatives aren't a fundamental right. The initiative, referendum, and recall portions of state constitutions only started appearing in the late 19th century. It's obvious that petition ballot initiatives were completely ignored by the founders of this country and certainly weren't considered "fundamental". One wonders how the United States survived for a hundred years without that "fundamental right" and how we continue to survive without having it at the federal level.

People have always had the right to directly petition their representatives because we live in, wait for it, a representative democracy.
Next time you want to blather about fundamental rights, learn a little history.

Well, now who is blathering? One wonders how the United States survived for a hundred years without that "fundamental right" called gay marriage.

Deval is no surprise: we've gone from 99% Democrat control to 100% Democrat control, so Deval figured he could ignore any law, and push any politician around.

Boy did HE get slammed.
Fortunately, we have some legislators who believe at least a little about the law of the land. Deval has crappy morals. And it shows. But he gives people lots of great hope....for more taxes, less local control, bigger government, all-gay-all-the-time, and if he had his way, he would deny children the right to have either a mom or a dad (stick them in same-sex homes). Every child should have a right to have both a mom and a dad. Playing tricks, Deval, will be your undoing. Welcome to the big-leagues buddy.
