Don't you get the sense that the same folks who are looking forward to WRKO-AM's transformation into a pro-Democrat station are also the same folks who fervently backed Deval Patrick's gubernatorial campaign?
It appears that the only people who are embracing the "change" WRKO plans to offer are hardcore Patrick partisans, the same folks who felt that Scott Allen Miller, John DePetro, and Howie Carr went "over the edge" in their criticisms of Patrick last fall.
These Democrats surely enjoyed it when staunchly pro-Patrick former 'RKO host Marjorie O'Neil Clapprood appeared as a fill-in host during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. If Clapprood is lured back to the station as part of the "restructuring" of 'RKO, they'll be overjoyed.
It's hard to envision Patrick supporters having a problem with convicted perjurer Tom Finneran's new show. Last fall, Finneran declared that Patrick was not a member of the "loony left," so it's unlikely that Finneran will use the show to wage war on the Patrick Administration. Finneran is in no position to cross swords with either Patrick or powerful left-wing entities such as the Boston Globe editorial page and the progressive blogosphere, so in all likelihood, he'll be a good boy and glorify the Governor.
WRKO-AM's changes are clearly being made with Patrick supporters in mind. Unfortunately, this strategy won't get them far--because the majority of his supporters are hooked on NPR.
