In November, two weeks after Deval Patrick swept to a resounding victory in the governor's race, his political advisers believed that his campaign was so flush with cash that they reimbursed the candidate $200,000.How comforting it is to know that Deval Patrick's campaign was full of people who can't add and substract. Now, his campaign manager, John Walsh , acknowledges that Patrick's political committee made a miscalculation and is struggling to pay off its debts.
At year's end, Patrick's committee owed $58,662 to a host of companies, consultants, and government agencies that provided services to the campaign, including a big-shot national political consultant, the Lowell public schools, and the Quincy police. Some are still waiting for payment.
As a result, Patrick will now have to raise additional money to cover his debt.

Deval Patrick's Campaign In Debt
Comments
It's more than fuzzy math.
At worst, it's the situation where the top dog gets paid off at the expense of the small creditors.
At best, it's a situation where, the campaign could have simply waited a few days to make sure the bills were all accrued and paid before repaying the Candidate advance. Rather than take a prudent approach and waiting, Patrick opted for the cash--a rash and hasty decision, but a necessary one in light of Patrick's stretched financial situation.
I am not surprised. Is the Governor sure we are facing a budget loss next year?
Hopefully the same "advisors" are not reviewing the state budget that analyzed the campaign one...yikes.
