I do not support abortion, and I disagree with Kerry Healey's stance on the issue.
With that in mind, I am glad she did not receive the endorsement of the radical left-wing pro-abortion groups Planned Parenthood, the Massachusetts chapter of the National Organization for Women, or NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts. These groups hold some of the most extreme positions on abortion there is, and I can't imagine why any politician, even one who supports abortion, would want their endorsement.
Abortion really isn't a key issue in this campaign, but with Deval Patrick receiving the endorsement of these radical groups, I think now is a good time to get some answers so we all can clearly assess both Healey's and Patrick's positions on the issue. A couple months ago, I listed five questions all candidates should be willing to answer about abortion "rights" they support or oppose.
- Do you support the right to have an abortion?
- Do you support spousal consent and/or notification for married women seeking an abortion?
- Do you support parental consent and/or notification for minors seeking an abortion?
- Do you support partial-birth abortion?
- Do you support taxpayer funded birth control and/or abortion?
Abortion may not be a key issue in this campaign, but the recent endorsements by these pro-abortion groups makes these questions about each candidates' views on abortion valid questions the voters deserve honest answers to.
